Pest Control Questions? We’ve Got the Ant-swers!

Straight answers from the A&A team on scheduling, pricing, warranties, and treatments across Portland, Vancouver, and the Oregon Coast.

Service Area and Scheduling

Do you service my area?

A&A Pest Control serves the Portland metro, Greater Vancouver in Southwest Washington, and the northern Oregon coast around Astoria, with offices in Portland, Vancouver, and Astoria. Our technicians are based strategically throughout the service area, so response times stay short. Find your city on our Locations page.

Do you offer same-day or emergency pest control?

Call before noon and we will schedule a technician to be onsite the next business day. That's the promise behind Next Day with A&A. For urgent problems, call as early as you can. Our office team will do their best to get a technician out the same day or the next.

Is a contract required?

No long-term contracts are required for most of our services. We offer one-time treatments and month-to-month recurring programs with no cancellation penalties. Auto pay and subscription billing are available, and our customer portal keeps your account, scheduling, and service history in one place.

Can you service a home I'm selling?

Definitely. Home sales run on deadlines, and one-time service with no long-term commitment fits them: schedule exactly what the sale requires, and our warranties are transferable to the new homeowners, so the protection carries over after closing.

Real Estate Transaction Disclaimer: A&A Pest Control does not perform WDI inspections for real estate transactions.

Pricing and Estimates

Can I get a free pest control estimate?

Absolutely! In most cases, we can provide free residential estimates over the phone after asking a few questions about the pest, the level of activity, and the size of your home. We also provide a complimentary site inspection for any multi-family or commercial property seeking a bid on recurring services, so we can properly assess your needs and develop a customized pest management program with accurate pricing and recommendations.

How much does pest control cost?

Cost depends on the pest, the size of your home or business, and the level of infestation, which is why we quote by phone for free. Pricing is transparent with no hidden fees, and our recurring protection bundles start at $35 a month.

Treatments and Your Family

What should I know about pest control around children and pets?

Protecting your family, including your four-legged family members, is our top priority at A&A. Our technicians take the time to explain the treatment, answer questions, and confirm all preparation is complete before service begins. We use professional pest control products and apply them responsibly in accordance with the product label and industry best practices. In most cases, children and pets simply need to stay out of the treatment area during the application and until it has dried. We'll always provide clear guidance specific to your service so you can feel confident and informed.

Will I need to leave my home during treatment?

Usually not. Most treatments are applied while you go about your day, and we will let you know in advance if a specific service requires the home to be empty for a while. If preparation is needed, the Single Family preparation sheet for your service walks you through each step before we arrive.

What products do you use?

The product depends on the pest. Our licensed technicians choose from a range of professional materials and techniques, from baits and monitoring devices to targeted applications, following an Integrated Pest Management approach that puts prevention first. Every product is applied according to its label and industry best practices.

Why isn't one visit always enough?

Good pest control isn't always an overnight fix. Pest problems develop over time, and lasting control may require more than one treatment. Ant baits need days to reach a hidden colony, while stored product pests can keep emerging for 2 to 4 weeks after treatment. Follow-up visits address the pests you see and the conditions that let them return.

How long until I see results?

Most customers notice clear improvement within a week or two, though timing varies by pest and the size of the infestation. Your technician will tell you what to expect from your specific treatment, and follow-ups are built into the process.

Warranty Coverage

What warranty does A&A offer?

When you're enrolled in ongoing preventative service, your services are warrantied in between visits: if a covered pest issue comes up before your next scheduled service, let us know and we will return to handle it. Warranty coverage depends on the pest and conditions. Documented conducive conditions that are not addressed may affect coverage, and your service report spells out anything your technician documents, so there are no surprises. Termite services carry extended warranty options.

Common Pest Questions

How do I know if I have a rodent problem?

Droppings, gnaw marks, scratching noises in walls or ceilings at night, and unusual pet behavior are the classic signs of a rodent problem. Mice can squeeze through a gap the size of a dime and rats through a gap the size of a quarter, so the activity usually starts well before you see one.

Can you seal my home to prevent rodents?

Yes. A&A performs minor rodent exclusion, closing the gaps and entry points rodents use with durable materials like hardware cloth and steel wool. Vent repair and broader exclusion work are quoted separately from the recurring pest bundles. We coordinate exclusion with trapping so rodents already inside can be removed while new rodents are kept out.

Are ants active in the winter?

They are. Northwest winters are mild enough that ants never fully shut down, and a midwinter warm spell can trigger indoor activity. That is why our ant control runs year-round rather than only in spring and summer.

What's the best way to get rid of bed bugs?

Bed bugs call for a targeted, professional approach: a thorough inspection to confirm activity, specialized treatments that reach all life stages, and follow-up visits to make sure nothing was missed. DIY treatments rarely work, because bed bugs are experts at hiding in mattresses, furniture, and wall cracks.

How do I keep wasps from building nests on my home?

Regular inspections, sealing entry points, and removing old nests all discourage wasps from settling in, and proactive treatments during peak season help keep new nests from getting started. One honest note: treating nests on the structure does not stop every passing forager, so you may still see occasional activity from colonies off your property.

Every pest we treat has its own page covering treatment, identification, risks, and prevention tips. Start with Rodent Control, Ant Control, Bed Bug Control, or Stinging Insect Control.

Businesses and Multi-Family Properties

Does A&A provide pest control for businesses?

Yes. A&A provides commercial pest control for offices, commercial buildings, food processing facilities, warehouses, healthcare facilities, schools, and multi-unit properties across Oregon and Southwest Washington. We also provide a complimentary site inspection for any multi-family or commercial property seeking a bid on recurring services. For program details, see Commercial Pest Control and Multi-Family Pest Control.

Do you offer emergency commercial pest control?

Yes. When a time-sensitive pest issue threatens your operations, we assess the situation and prioritize your service based on its impact on your business. Commercial customers enrolled in an ongoing pest management program receive priority response for urgent pest concerns.

Services A&A Does Not Provide

We treat a lot of pests, from rodents to occasional invaders like box elder bugs, stink bugs, and elm seed bugs. Our specialty is insect and rodent control. A few services fall outside our scope:

  • Bee Removal
  • Wildlife Services
  • Fumigation Services

If your problem calls for wildlife or mole control, we work with trusted partners and are happy to provide a referral.
